Michelle's project proposal
From CSWiki
ok, some thoughts...
PLork & SO (maybe not Matmos, I kind of have to think on that a little more...it's not feeling right at the moment)...
all the ensemble members record themselves speaking dreams. these can be dreams they recall having, or dreams selected from a dream database such as this one: http://tcup.currentform.com/explore.php
the sonic content for the piece is largely these spoken texts. a whole bunch get recorded and shared among the ensemble, and these get sent to Matmos for development too.
i don't know much about the details except that PLork members will wear headset mics and be able to speak/record live dream-based texts during the performance as well as work with layers of pre-recorded text materials. i have an image of the ensemble members lying down on the floor, "dreaming" - then slowly coming into the piece by beginning to speak and work with the pre-recorded materials in live mix. imagining that SO will be performing an improvisation-based score (a structured improvisation) built around these texts and keywords.
i really want to explore using keywords as a score for structured improvisation between computers and acoustic instruments THIS IS MY MAIN INTEREST IN DEVELOPING THS PIECE!
i think this is a scaleable piece. interactivity and tech wise i think it's pretty simple, basically working with IM-type text sharing, pre-recorded samples and live audio input from the headset mics.
this is part of a larger project i'm working on, and there is a video artist collaborator, but now sure how feasible to bring her in on this. it would be amazing to do though!
